she lived a long life .. and died at 20 years of age

Journalling Criteria/Theme:

All About Me!

The focus of your journalling and the theme of your layout has to be based on YOU

and something/or things that you are really good at.

Don't be shy! We are all good at something as small or as big as it might be.

Ideas for journalling: being a good mum, cooking, talking, understanding people,

organising, cleaning, gardening, studying, computers, fashion,

exercising, scrapbooking, good at my job, maths, languages, writing ,

drawing, painting, photography, running, craft, sewing.

Maybe you can talk about an aspect of your personality..

your sensitivity, your 6th sense, your patience, your strength or bravery,

your ability to stay positive.

Remember that you are allowed to also create a card or altered project

based on this sketch and theme and instead of the journalling criteria

you need to use a quote.

Many of us find it difficult to write about ourselves ,

but there is something really very 'EMPOWERING' about owning your talents ...

everyone of us have strengths and talents,

so I encourage you to create a page on yourself??

It has been a blast and I have loved every minute .

I loved this palette, but when I saw the ' caramel' I thought where am I going to add that ???

I spend a great deal of time in my kitchen ..

We had our kitchen re-modelled 6 years ago and I adore it .

so easy to work in and clean

with stone benches and splashbacks.

I waited a long time for this kitchen and it was worth it !!!!

there is a very pretty palette this week over at

THE COLOR ROOM

I chose to create a fairly monochromatic theme using mainly the purple hues

and adding small snippetts of the other colors in the palette

I designed the funky heart and wrapped it in wool .

. I layered it on top of some paper clocks I cut from Bo-Bunny paper

and secured them with a brad.

to begin the year with ID,

I decided to do one masculine page and one feminine

to demonstrate how versatile the Imaginarium chippies are .

masculine page

"YOU"

I have created a slightly grungy page and on the chippies I have used three colored inks

to tone in with the papers.

first I inked with Rusty Hinge ( Tim Holtz) then added some Charcoal (kaiser)

and finished odd with brick ( Versa Color)

the secret to this effect is I find to be quite random and quick with the inks..

not too deliberate or fussy

when layering the cogs

I kept turning them in different directions until I was happy

then secured them with a brad.

the cogs are one of my faves for boy pages.. love them

Feminine page

"MOMENTS IN TIME "

my Ella is such a feminine little girl .. so I have used lots of flowers with the chipboard

all the chippies are inked with (Versa color) Raspberry and Aubergine ( Kaiser) you may have to look closely at the images

to see the subtle difference in the shades on the leaves and flourish .

the trick I have used here is cutting up the flourish and the leaves to add interest ..

I arranged the flowers first then added the pieces of flourish and leaves where I wanted them..

the ID chippies are so versatile, as sometimes all I need is a small piece which adds the perfect finishing touch to a page .

the title ( love all the ID titles ) is inked and then stitched in place. I felt the title looked best vertical on this page

I love in scrapbooking that there are no rules !!!! If I want to put something sideways I can... LOL !!!

I love this photo of Ella playing with lipstick.

LEMON/WHITE and recycled MUSLIN

over at White with One this month there is a delicious challenge for February

white/lemon/and 3 photos

always a stretch for me using multi photos ,

but I could get used to it I feel !!!

we use something recycled on each project ....

this month the recycled item had to be muslin or medical bandage

mine surrounds the photo and a small amount is poked in with the flowers

this brings back fabulous memories for me

one of the delightful places we stayed while holidaying in New Zealand.

ONCE UPON A .. SKETCH

WE ARE HAVING A "SWITCHEROO" THIS MONTH!!!

two gorgeous gals Nadia Cannizzo and Irini Liolia

have brainstormed and come up with such a fun idea !!

now to explain....

Here at Once Upon A...Sketch, we are nearing the end of our first year and during this time we have noticed a huge amount of support from many countries around the world and we are incredibly lucky that our challenges are supported by so many people from all different parts of the globe. One of these countries is Greece, and we have come to realise that we receive many entries from such a small country where scrapbooking is so new, so we had a think and decided to team up with another challenge blog based in Greece and run by our very own Irini Liolia called Get Creative. How exciting!! We have decided to become "sister" blogs, because let's face it...most of us scrapping are women and is there anything stronger than a sisterhood? So for this month only, the Design Team from Once Upon A..Sketch are guests over at Get Creative and taking part in THEIR 1st and 15th of the month challenges and the Design Team from Get Creative are guests on Once Upon A..Sketch! Thus a new bond is formed between 2 challenge blogs.

I used
striped small piece of paper

a tangerine Rhinestone.. top left hand corner cluster

braiding ( along the top of the banner)

frame.. I framed the photo and also added a small frame under the corner of the pic

I used glossy accents on the title .. to create reflection

MY JOURNALING

I journaled in a curious and reflective manner

and used the words WONDER and CHANGE !!

this site is the brain child of Angi Barrs and Yvonne Yam

creating items using at least one up-cycled item .

challenge #9 is to create an inspiration board.

my up-cycled items are

lace doilies, buttons, dressmaking tissue, muslin

my idea was to turn a canvas inside out and embellish it with chipboard

and design some tags which hold affirmations .

my intention is to create some more tags through the year and have

7 each week ...

so I can pick a tag each day

and have a positive affirmation to repeat to myself all through the day

above is my old lace doilie.

my upcycled items were some old doilies from the second hand shop

( I purchased 20 for $5 .. a bargain)

some buttons and a strip of old dressmaking tissue

Or maybe you can journal about your thoughts for the new year.

Things that you can journal about: a new job, house, baby or new scrapping adventures or Design Teams. Are you taking time off work? Are you planning a holiday somewhere? Maybe your children are starting school or you are getting a new pet. Or you could tell us why you are glad 2011 is over or why you will miss it. Anything goes really!

I love reading about self awareness and alternative ways to live and look at life

this book I am reading at the moment is called

"THE FOUR AGREEMENTS"

JUST A "LIGHT" READ ???? ha ha !!!!

some of my many books ...

in the 80's I participated in dozens of workshops.

"a total life changing experience"

I then studied N.L.P. with Marvin Oka and Louise L. Hay principals with Louise.

and became a qualified N.L.P. practitioner.and a Louise L. Hay Trainer

my sister and I facilitated workshops for 10 years

as well as running our hairdressing salons

an extremely busy time !!!!!!!!

My darling Tardy gave me this plaque for my garden ... love it !!!

while we were "houseboating" on the River Murray.

DAY 9. DAILY ROUTINE

I always begin my day with a 20 minute meditation

I discovered meditation when I was 12 years of age

and have meditated every day of my life since .

gardening is a daily process for me ... this is also a form of meditation

tending to my garden keeps me grounded and balanced !!!!!

I always end each day by lighting a scented candle ..

mmmmm Lemon is one of my faves ..

a fabulous site all about using recycled items

in each project there has to be at least one item recycled

For my page I used

1. corrugated board .. from cardboard packing boxes,

2. some neutral colored kitchen string .

I love this paper range .. so perfect for cut-outs

just a couple of pics showing how I go about my layering

add the corrugated board to your cardstock

then poke some patterned paper under the top section

add more strips of patterned paper

next just keep adding layers and cutouts till you are happy

mum was 5 and Aunty was 7

Auntie Sylvia was my fave aunty..

my mother died when I was 10 years old

and Aunty Sylvia was so loving to me and my twin sister (Lorraine)

I printed the pic on Canvas

( a little tough on the printer though.. naughty me )

love the effect of this ...

the colors are quite dull but I wanted to reflect the time

and create the effect of old aged paper ..

I LOVE IMAGINARIUM DESIGNS CHIPPIES

I began this LO before Baden went into Hospital

so I thought I would finish it off today

I used the sensational BoBunny paper with a few strips in Authentique paper

and the title is from

IMAGINARIUM DESIGNS CHIPPIES

I inked the chipboard in Tim Holtz rusty hinge added some black along the bottom edge

then stamped with a text stamp in black ..

I really love this effect.

Baden is being very diligent with his exercises and is feeling better each day

he has to lie on his back.. flat on the bed with his legs stretching out straight ...

he must sleep this way too ...

this goes on for 6 weeks .. teaching him lots of patience

he is allowed up for 90 minutes a day ...

poor darling he is being very good and never complains

he over did it on Wednesday and had swelling in his ankle and hip

so he is taking it easy now ...

to everyone for all your love and wishes to Baden and me re his surgery

all went very well and the physios have already had him standing

the miracle of modern medicine

"he is a little high on morphine at the moment ..giggle, giggle !!!!!"

First of all I want to say I may not be back here for a little while

as my darling husband, Baden is going into hospital on the 7th Dec

to have surgery ... a hip replacement ..

and I want to be by his side as he recovers.

lots of rehabilitation ahead for him..

so please say a prayer for him and a wish for a speedy recovery

this month I used a recycled envelope

I lined it with paper and popped a couple of tags inside

the kraft tag is also recycled ..

felt these soft pinky/caramel colors went beautifully together

with white and kraft .

Journalling Criteria/theme: The thing I look most forward to in December.

Write at least 2 sentences on what you look forward to in the next month. December is a festive month so your journalling could be about the Christmas season, the holidays, the presents or if you do not celebrate Christmas what does December bring for you that you look most forward to? Note:You layout DOES NOT have to be about Christmas! It can be about anything December brings.

Other ideas for journalling: an annual holiday or celebration, a specific event such as putting up the Christmas tree or pre Christmas traditions you might have leading up to Christmas, family time, snow covered fields or warmer weather, time off work, school holidays, change of weather, new season fruit.

one of my very fave books is "the 4 agreements " written by Don Miguel Ruiz

it is all about a different way to live life

it is LIFE CHANGING !

I created this tiny mini book to sit on my kitchen dresser where I am reminded to apply these agreements to my every day life.

THE FOUR AGREEMENTS

Be impeccable with your word

Never take anything personally

Never make assumptions

Always do your best

these are fabulous principles to live a wonderful life

taking things personal has been my challenge LOL

I am much better, but still working on it !!!!!!!??????

this book is so beautifully written and I have found it to be life changing !!!

Don Miguel has written another book ..

RICH VELVETY COLORS

over at THE COLOR ROOM this week

orange/yellow is a color I rarely use in scrap-booking

but once I got going I loved it .

a beautiful photo of Alisha sleeping.

the flourished frame & love are from IMAGINARIUM DESIGNS

I layered the photo over the frame just allowing the flourish to show.

I cut up the Prima flower stems and made a little cluster/posy of glass flowers

beautiful rich velvety colors ..

"yummy caramels and earthy tones ..."

I had this fabulous photo of Marilyn given to me and I felt this was the perfect

theme to use it ... dreamy, soft and romantic ...

I used the amazing IMAGINARIUM DESIGNS CHIPPIES

the frame, dress-form and the button

I stitched the lace on to my page and left strands hanging and fragile just like her life ..

this is my take on the criteria

I decided to include some hidden journaling

the chippies are from IMAGINARIUM DESIGNS

I created this pocket using matching papers and added my journaling tags

this way I can do as much journaling as I wish without cluttering the page ..

and it also creates a little mystery & surprise for the reader. !!

one of my very fave things to do is creating tags

I always decorate them both sides !!!

my love of detail .. LOL
