IN 2010 I COMPLETED A TEXTILE COURSE AT MARDEN COLLEGE.
lots of work but heaps of fun.. a great bunch of girls.. eighteen of us ..
one of the projects I thought I would share with you is a fabric book I created .
we had to do a project incorporating 6 applique techniques ..
this is what I came up with ..
THE COVER ..
free machine embroidery, stamping, outline stitch and fused technique.
Gathering fabrics, stamps, ideas, scissors etc. in preparation.
this technique is called NAIVE OR FOLK ART .. we had to create a design using the American folk art of stitching, hand turned and satin stitch, and Broderic Persc .. I chose to create another scrapbooking type design with fabric ..
this is a technique using sheers .... I used a dress-form and created a scrapbooking LO with fabric .. I also used satin stitch, hand stitching and raw edge work ..
this flower design is the reverse applique technique ..one of my FAVES.
I layered four different fabrics together .. one on top of the other ... then I stitched a design on to the back of the fabric ... then turned the fabric over and proceeded to cut into the fabric revealing the different fabrics underneath, creating a design .. COOL HEY ???
a close up ..
thanks everybody for droppin' by
hope you ENJOYED my little textile sample book
love and hugz Heather x

ReplyDeleteHi Heather, these pages are gorgeous. I grew up with sister and my mum both very good seamstresses and litte bits of fabric everywhere. I think that it is clever how you mixed both talents, the scrabooking and the sewing. Very nice
ReplyDeleteThis looks great Heather, but then again all your work is always great. You are a very talented lady, so therefore your lovely comments on my WW1 page tonight means a lot to me. The page I did is how I like to scrap for myself, unfortunately I don't get a chance to scrap my own style much these days as I am always busy creating pages for classes for my shop & I have to do what our clients want, & unfortunately that is different to what I love to do for myself. Thanks again for your kind words. Hugs Di xx
