A GREAT BIG THANKS to Olga for inviting me
and sending me such yummy papers and delish elements.

Today I am sharing with you a Grunge layout

showcasing some photos from a Desert Trip back in 2008
Baden(my hubby) and his mates traveled along the very rugged 'Canning Stock Route'
which meanders through the middle of Australia
 8 Guys, 3 Vehicles, 8,000 Kms.
They had the most amazing adventure, which they still talk and laugh about,
and lucky, lucky me, having 2.000 photos to play with.
I created a mini book with 60 of the photos back in 2009.
Today I created a very Rustic and Textured Layout .

close up of the banner featuring the glorious Kaiser Base coat collection
I fell in love with this entire Range, which is just Perfect for rustic/grunge layouts

Kaiser materials used
Basecoat Whitewash
Basecoat Concrete

For this layout I used some corrugated board as my base.
I grunged it up by tearing sections to reveal the corrugation
then I began staining, painting, inking, stamping, sanding.
I wanted to create a foundation to represent the colors, texture and the rustic rawness
of the Australian outback .
I cut the paper into strips, using both sides
 and kept layering the strips
until I was happy .
lastly I added the mounted photos and elements .
this was a fun and messy project to create .

Please have a go at creating one of these rustic pages as really
all you do is keep adding and layering, if you are not happy
just add another layer of ink or paint!
It is really that easy, trust me  !!!

other materials used
Prima acrylic stamp / trellis
Kaiser acrylic stamp/ bubble wrap
Tim Holtz Distress ink /Rusty Hinge
Tim Holtz Alterations /Sizzix/ Tag
Tim Holtz Alterations/ Pediments*Frontone*frontones.
Tim Holtz kraft -Core / Rusty Hinge
Tim Holtz / crackle paint./rusty hinge stain
Tim Holtz / tissue tape/film strip .
2Crafty chipboard/ tags/chicken wire
Graphic45 /metal hinge
black versa color ink
gesso and machine stitching

thanks for looking everyone and I hope I have inspired you
to have a play with these Rustic papers from Kaiser .

May is the month of 'VINTAGE' at

This month we want to see some vintage inspired layouts,
your layout can be classic vintage or modern vintage and anything in between!

The only requirement's are that you create your layout on Kraft Patterned Paper
or Kraft Cardstock and your entry must be created for this challenge ONLY!!!

Here is my VINTAGE creation

'Heritage '
I've had this photo of these old damaged chairs for some time
and when I discovered  the theme for MAY was Vintage,
I thought 'YES' I can now use that photo .

I just adore working with these 2crafty chippies .
The title Heritage works perfectly with my Vintage themed layout .
I used Versa color ink / rose and then dabbed a small amount of black around the edges.
stamping, stitching, inking and cluster of flowers and labels all add to the Vintage feel .

thanks for looking everyone and I hope I have inspired you.
hugz from Heather x

  1. Both of them are awesome Heather, but I specially love the grungy top one, so cool!

  2. *sigh* these are both just stunning!! Absolutely gorgeous Heather!!

  3. I love, love, love both of these layouts!! I love the colors, the grunginess! They are fabulous!!

  4. Awesome texture and dimension. So very beautiful.

  5. Oh wow, they are both such perfect pages! You never cease to amaze me!

  6. You are the Queen of grunge (in a nice way). That first page is just so inspiring, I think I'll have to get some of that Tim Holtz rusty hinge, its so life like !! Your ideas are just so darn good.....loving your craft pages too, everyone is and inspiration...xx

  7. Gorgeous, gorgeous pages !! So rich and so full of beautiful textures and details. xx

  8. 2000 photos, eh? And you're not in a single one of 'em!!! That may take quite a bit of scrapping, methinks!!! You really have gotten the OUtback on a page [doesn't make me want to go, I must say!!! I'm a Francophile at heart, myself - quite happy to leave the bush to the boys]....& I love your idea of just keep on adding til it looks right....not a bad one. Least it would stop me trying to UNstick stuff - which always has 'interesting' consequences!!!! LOVE your old chairs....vintage is just such perfect 'fit' for you:):)

  9. Wow, Heather both these pages are totally awesome. I especially loooove your grungy outback page, it's really spectacular makes me feel the heat just looking at it. You have this wonderful knack of making the page fit the photo, and I can only sit and dream. And your vintage layout is just as gorgeous, I love all the layering and the stamping and the doodling and the .. everything!! oxox

  10. Two brilliant pages Heather...the Canning Stock route one really touches me, 'cos I guess I'm a bush kid at heart and we were in the outback last year. They are both brilliant. You remind me of a goldsmith, refining and refining, each page better, until at the end it's just pure GOLD......

  11. These are AAAMMAAAYYYYZZINGGG! love the earthy colors, rugged textures and fabulous design of each layout.. love these.. I reckon if you shook the layout dust would come off!!

  12. How wonderful for you hubby to have this opportunity and how wonderful that you get to play with all the photos. That layout is magnificent. I love the grungy, rusty feel to it whilst you still maintained your style. I don't know how you do it but you blow me away every time. I am so happy that you said what the other photo was because for the life of me I could not work it out... :D Dont want to tell you what I thought it was;) Another beautiful layout. <3 <3 <3

  13. Heather wonderful works of art. Yes i like your suggested thought, if it doesn't look quite right, add another layer.... i will give this thought process a try. I love Kraft, so i will give the challenge a try as well... thanks for sharing the deets on how to get the look. Truly showcased the product well !!!!

  14. Heather you do vintage so well and especially these colors. These creations are phenomenal.

  15. üüüüübercool layouts, both of them!!!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
